c (pronounced /k/) is pleased to have Jay Hollick as its Featured Artist for Fall 2010. Jay Hollick makes drawings and paintings that playfully point to the manner in which systems of belief find form in visual culture. Relying on the vernacular of the cartoon Hollick creates compositions which are both familiar and enigmatic. His current body of work explores the paradox of creating a “readable” pictorial language from purely abstract elements of cartoons.
A former studio assistant for Dutch artist, Joep van Lieshout, Jay Hollick is currently working toward a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of South Florida.
